Asiago/Roana 2016: JM and SW round robin close to the end

  • News: Inline Hockey
  • Date: Tuesday, 14 June 2016

Third day was mostly dedicated to the under 20 category at the PalaRobaan of Roana where 8 games out of the 10 in program are for the Junior Male category.

Few surprises in the matches involving teams Korea and India, respectively, beaten by Germany 10-0 and by the Great Britain for 17-0. British and Germans conclude the pool both in third place, therefore outside the quarterfinals.

Chinese Taipei beats in a very even match that stayed on 0-0 until the 36 minute, Mexico which despite the roster smaller than their opponent’s, held up well each attack thanks to the excellent goalie too. And only when there are four minutes left to the end of regulation time, Chinese Taipei with a series of well-placed shots scores 4 goals in a row and grab the 2 points. Final result: 4-0.

The two women’s games of the day are both crucial in view of the final rankings of the pools: first, the Latvians defeat Iran 6-4; the Iranian girls often manifest superiority and always remain in game, proving to have a great team play and a good control of the puck, remarkable qualities for a first participation in a World Championship.

Namibia qualifies for the quarterfinals beating Great Britain 6-1 in a match in which the African set a more calm and precise game that showed to be rewarding, despite a very similar technical level. In the last minute, below 5 goals, the British showed some unnecessary nervousness that have also led to a 10’ penalty for misconduct.

It has been a full women morning in Asiago. Of the five games played in this first half day of 14 June, 4 were dedicated to women: Easy victory for Spain, 11-0 against India and a balanced game between Switzerland and Czech Republic. The Swiss were for long time in the match, and only in the last minutes the Czech were able to score on their offensive pressure and break the defensive box of Switzerland: 4-2 the final score.
Victory also tought for France, 3-0 on a really good New Zealand. Great skating quality for both teams and a really great game to watch. The last Women Senior match played in the morning in Asiago was between Canada and Chinese Taipei: even though the Asian team pushed hard until the end of the game, the Canadians took the lead since the very beginning and the final score was 11 - 1.
The only game of the junior men played in Asiago this morning was between Spain and USA: clear and decisive victory for the Iberians over the Americans: 7-1 score the final of a match played in an exemplary way from Spain.
